E520235.31

Massey Ferguson E520235.31 – Engine ECU (EEM4): Engine Module Internal Issue (ECU)

Issue description

The engine's control module has detected a critical internal hardware or software fault and has triggered a 'Watchdog/Active Brake/Engine' (WDA/ABE) shut-off condition, forcing itself into a protective cut-off state.

Check the cause

  1. Perform a hard power cycle by turning the machine's main power switch OFF for at least two minutes, then turn back on to see if the code transitions from Active to Stored

  2. Inspect the wiring harness connectors at the Engine ECU for pushed pins, corrosion, or moisture intrusion that could cause an internal short circuit logic error

  3. Verify that the ECU is receiving proper voltage and has clean grounds

  4. Check for other active cascading codes (such as 5V reference shorts) that might be forcing the ECU into a protective watchdog state

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical arcing.

  2. Removal

Locate the EEM4 Engine ECU. Carefully unplug the wiring harness connectors and unbolt the module from its mounting bracket.

  3. Installation

Mount the new EEM4 ECU and reconnect the wiring harnesses. Reconnect the battery.

  4. Programming & Activation

Connect the AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool (EDT) to the tractor's diagnostic port. Open the 'Configuration' menu and select 'Engine ECU Replacement'. Push the start button and follow the on-screen instructions to download the software and activate the unit. CRITICAL: You must use a brand new EEM4 spare part unit from AGCO.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • AGCO EEM4 Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Engine Controller Module

    8370 73770

Part numbers are highly specific to the exact engine displacement and tractor configuration. You must order the replacement EEM4 unit directly through an AGCO parts dealer using the tractor's specific VIN/Serial Number.
