E520236.31

Massey Ferguson E520236.31 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / AGCO SISU POWER EEM4: Engine Module Internal Issue (ECU)

Issue description

The engine controller has detected an internal hardware or software failure. The ECU's internal watchdog processor has triggered a safety shutdown or registered a critical internal logic error that it cannot resolve.

Check the cause

  1. Perform a System Reset by turning the ignition off for a minimum of 60 seconds to allow the EEM4 controller to power down completely, then turn it back on to see if the code clears.

  2. Check for undervoltage or overvoltage conditions by inspecting the battery, alternator output, and the main power/ground pins at the ECU connector (Pins K24, K78, K77, K07, K73, K93, K30, K08, K33, K25).

  3. Look for other active codes (like SPN 520234 or 520235) which indicate undervoltage or overvoltage detections.

  4. Connect the AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool (EDT) / WinEEM4 Service Tool to verify if the ECU has the latest software version.

Repair steps

  1. Backup Data

Connect the AGCO EDT device to the tractor. Open the 'Diagnostic Test' page, select 'Save & Upload Engine Log', and save the engine data.

  2. Save Injector Codes

Open the 'Calibration' tab and record the Injector Calibration (IQA) codes. You will need these for the new module.

  3. Initiate Replacement

Open 'Configuration', select 'Engine ECU Replacement', and push start.

  4. Deactivate Old ECU

Turn the ignition switch to OFF. Wait for exactly 2 minutes until the power is completely cut off from the tractor control units.

  5. Physical Swap

Disconnect the wiring harnesses from the old EEM4 unit, unbolt it from the engine block/bracket, and install the new EEM4 unit. Reconnect the harnesses.

  6. Activate New ECU

Turn the ignition switch to ON. The EDT will read the serial number of the new EEM4 unit. Follow the on-screen EDT prompts to program the new ECU, input the saved IQA codes, and configure tractor-specific options (e.g., turbine clutch presence).

  7. Clear and Test

Clear all historical fault codes and test run the engine to verify the repair.

Parts you might need

(2)
  • Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EEM4 Controller

    837073357

Common for EEM4-E401 / EEM4-H411 hardware. The exact part number varies heavily by specific engine model, emissions tier, and tractor configuration. Always order the replacement EEM4 unit from AGCO parts using the engine serial number. A used ECU cannot be plugged in.
