Check the cause
Verify that the battery voltage is within specification and test all power supply and ground circuits leading to the Engine ECU for voltage drops, resistance, or shorts.
Disconnect the ECU harnesses and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture ingress, or pushed-out pins.
Use a diagnostic tool to clear the DTCs, cycle the key, and operate the machine to see if the E520250.31 code returns as an active/hard fault. If it returns and power/ground circuits are perfect, the ECU has suffered an internal failure.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes during removal.
Locate and Remove
Locate the Engine ECU. Carefully release the locking mechanisms on the wiring harness connectors and unplug them.
Dismount
Remove the mounting bolts securing the ECU to the chassis/engine block and remove the faulty unit.
Install New Unit
Mount the replacement ECU and secure the hardware.
Reconnect
Reconnect the wiring harnesses, ensuring the connectors are fully seated and locked. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
Programming
Flash/program the new Engine ECU with the correct software configuration matching the tractor's exact serial number using an authorized AGCO/Massey Ferguson dealer diagnostic tool.
