Check the cause

  1. Check Power and Ground: Verify that the Engine ECU is receiving stable voltage. Check the main power relays, fuses, and ground straps connected to the engine block and ECU housing to rule out voltage spikes or drops during boot-up.

  2. Inspect Connectors: Disconnect the ECU harnesses and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-out terminals.

  3. Clear and Retest: Use a diagnostic scan tool (such as the AGCO EST tool) to clear the fault code. Cycle the key off, wait for the module to power down completely, and turn the key back on. If the code returns immediately, the ECU has suffered a fatal internal failure.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical arcing or further module damage.

  2. Locate the ECU

Locate the Bosch EDC17CV54 Engine ECU (typically mounted on the side of the engine block or firewall).

  3. Remove the ECU

Carefully release the locking levers on the wiring harness connectors and unplug them from the ECU. Remove the mounting bolts securing the ECU to its bracket and remove the unit.

  4. Install the New ECU

Mount the replacement ECU and secure the bolts. Carefully plug in the wiring harnesses, ensuring the locking levers seat fully.

  5. Reconnect Power

    Reconnect the negative battery cable.

  6. Programming / Initialization

Connect the AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool (EST) and perform an 'ECU Initialization' to flash the correct engine software and parameters for your specific tractor model.
