Check the cause

  1. Verify tractor battery voltage and inspect main power and ground feeds to the Engine ECU for voltage spikes, severe drops during cranking, or poor grounding.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness connecting to the ECU for chafing, water intrusion, bent pins, or a short circuit in a sensor 5V reference wire that could backfeed.

  3. Attempt to clear the fault code using a diagnostic tool and cycle the ignition key to determine if the fault is a hard failure or an intermittent software glitch.

  4. Check with an authorized dealer for an available software reflash or update that addresses false Cy146/SPI communication errors.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the tractor's battery (negative terminal first) to prevent any electrical arcing or further damage.

  2. Locate the ECU

Locate the Engine ECU, which is typically mounted directly to the side of the Sisu engine block on isolation mounts.

  3. Remove the ECU

Carefully release the locking levers on the main wiring harness connectors and unplug them from the ECU. Remove the mounting bolts securing the ECU to the engine block.

  4. Install the New ECU

Mount the replacement Engine ECU and torque the bolts to OEM specifications. Reconnect the wiring harnesses, ensuring the locking levers click fully into place.

  5. Reconnect Power

    Reconnect the battery terminals.

  6. Programming

Connect the AGCO WinEEM3s or EEM4 Service Tool (dealer diagnostic software) to flash the ECU with the correct software payload, injector trim codes, and parameters specific to the tractor's VIN/serial number.

  7. Verification

Clear all historical fault codes and run the engine to verify the repair.
