Massey Ferguson 520263.31 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): CY146 error 4 / Internal ECU error: H-bridge IC error of CY146
Issue description
The CY146 is an internal H-bridge Integrated Circuit (IC) located inside the Engine Control Unit (ECU). This code indicates that the ECU has detected an internal hardware failure, SPI/COM communication error, or a damaged driver chip on this specific circuit.

Check the cause
Inspect the engine wiring harness between the ECU and engine actuators (such as throttle flaps, EGR valves, or turbo bypass actuators) for rubbed-through wires causing a short to ground or short to battery.
Test the resistance of the actuators to ensure they have not internally shorted.
Verify CAN bus integrity by checking for 120-ohm terminating resistance.
Ensure the ECU is receiving proper voltage and ground.
Clear the code and retest. If 520263.31 immediately returns after verifying no external shorts exist, the ECU's internal CY146 chip is permanently damaged.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery terminal.
Repair External Faults
If a short circuit was found in the wiring harness or an actuator during diagnostics, repair the wire or replace the faulty actuator first.
Remove the Engine ECU
Disconnect the main wiring harness connectors from the Engine ECU. Unbolt the ECU from its mounting bracket on the engine block.
Install the New ECU
Mount the replacement Engine ECU and securely reconnect the wiring harnesses.
Program the ECU
Connect the AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool (EDT) to the tractor and flash the ECU with the correct software/fuel maps for the specific tractor model and engine serial number.
Verify Repair
Reconnect the battery, start the engine, and verify that the fault code has been cleared and the engine operates without power degradation.
Parts you might need
(1)Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Electronic Engine Management (EEM4) Controller
You must order the ECU using the specific Engine Serial Number (ESN) found on the engine data plate to ensure correct hardware compatibility.
