Massey Ferguson E520293.31 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / AGCO SISU Power EEM4: Field test software expired
Issue description
The engine controller is running on a pre-release, beta, or 'field test' software version that was programmed with a hardcoded expiration date. Once the internal timer or date is reached, the software expires, triggering this code and often forcing the engine into a severe power derate.

Check the cause
Verify that E520293.31 (SPN 520293 FMI 31) is the active code.
Connect the AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool (EDT) or WinEEM4 service tool to the tractor's diagnostic port to read ECU data.
Read the current software version on the Engine ECU and confirm that it is flagged as a 'Field test' or R&D version rather than standard production software.
Ensure there are no underlying voltage or CAN bus communication issues preventing the ECU from being flashed.
Repair steps
Connect diagnostic tool
Connect the AGCO EDT (Electronic Diagnostic Tool) to the machine's diagnostic port.
Access module
Access the Engine Control Unit (EEM4) module.
Download software
Download the latest official production software calibration file for the specific tractor model and engine serial number.
Flash ECU
Flash/reprogram the Engine ECU to overwrite the expired field test software.
Perform key cycle
Once the flash is complete, perform a key cycle (turn the ignition off, wait 30-60 seconds for the ECU to power down, and turn it back on).
Clear codes
Clear all inactive fault codes.
Verify repair
Start the engine and verify that the code does not return and that engine power is fully restored.
