Massey Ferguson 520356.03 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Fuel Rail Pressure Control Valve High Voltage
Issue description
SHORT CIRCUIT to battery in the high side of the pressure control valve, indicating the controller is detecting voltage on the control circuit that is higher than expected, typically caused by a wiring short to a power source or an internal short within the valve's solenoid coil.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness from the Engine ECU to the Fuel Rail Pressure Control Valve for rub points, melted insulation, or pinched wires
Disconnect the plug at the pressure control valve and inspect for corrosion, water ingress, or pushed/bent pins
Test the high-side wire of the valve circuit for continuity to power using a multimeter (with key on, engine off) to identify harness shorts
Measure the resistance across the pins of the Fuel Rail Pressure Control Valve to check for an internal dead short
Use a diagnostic scanner (e.g., AGCO WinEEM5) to verify active/stored status and check for related codes
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes.
Access the Valve
Locate the Fuel Rail Pressure Control Valve on the engine's high-pressure fuel system. Clean the surrounding area thoroughly to prevent dirt from entering the fuel system.
Address Wiring
If the diagnostic checks revealed a short to power in the harness, splice and repair the damaged section of the wire, sealing it with heat-shrink tubing.
Replace the Valve
If the valve is internally shorted: Disconnect the electrical connector, remove the retaining fasteners holding the valve to the pump/rail, carefully extract the old valve, lubricate the O-rings on the new valve with clean diesel fuel, insert the new valve and torque the fasteners to the manufacturer's specification.
Reassembly
Reconnect the electrical connector and the battery.
Clear Codes and Test
Connect your diagnostic tool, clear the 520356.03 fault code from the ECU, and prime the fuel system if necessary. Start the engine and verify that the code does not return and that the engine does not enter a derated state.
