Massey Ferguson 520358.31 – Engine Control Unit (Engine ECU): Fuel Rail Pressure Control Valve Engine Module Internal Driver Issue

Over temperature of device driver of pressure control valve. The internal circuitry (the driver) inside the engine computer that supplies voltage/ground to the high-pressure fuel rail control valve has overheated or suffered an internal hardware failure.

   Clear the Memory: Connect your diagnostic tool and erase the Level 2/3 error from the fault code memory.

   Test Drive: Operate the vehicle for a short distance (e.g., a few kilometers) under load to replicate the operating conditions in which the error was originally set.

   Re-evaluate: If the error does not reappear, do not replace the ECU (likely a transient heat/software spike). If the error does reappear, the ECU has suffered permanent internal hardware damage and must be replaced.

   Wiring Check: Check the wiring harness between the ECU and the Fuel Rail Pressure Control Valve for a short circuit to ground or battery voltage, or an internally shorted control valve, which can cause the ECU driver to overheat and burn out.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical arcing.

   Locate the ECU

   Locate the Engine ECU, which is typically mounted directly to the side of the AGCO Power engine block.

   Remove the ECU

   Carefully release the locking tabs on the main wiring harness connectors and unplug them from the ECU. Unbolt the ECU from its mounting bracket.

   Install the New ECU

   Bolt the replacement ECU into place and securely reconnect the wiring harnesses.

   Program the ECU

   Use the AGCO WinEEM5 service tool (or equivalent dealer software) to flash the ECU with the correct software fingerprint, engine maps, and injector calibration codes for your specific tractor chassis.

   Final Verification

   Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and verify that the fuel rail pressure reaches the requested setpoint without triggering limp mode or active derate.
