Check the cause
Inspect the external hitch switch (front or rear), its wiring harness, and the connectors for visible damage, dirt, or moisture
Restart the vehicle's engine to reset the hydraulic/hitch system modules
Manually cycle the external hitch switch through all of its positions (raise and lower)
Monitor if the code returns immediately, indicating an active fault requiring physical repair
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and ensure the hitch is safely lowered to the ground to relieve hydraulic pressure.
Access the Switch
Locate the affected external hitch switch (typically mounted on the rear fender or near the front hitch assembly).
Disconnect and Inspect
Unplug the wiring harness connector from the switch. Check for bent pins, corrosion, or water ingress (a common issue for externally mounted fender switches).
Test the Switch
Use a multimeter to test the switch for proper continuity when the buttons are pressed. If the switch fails the continuity test or is physically stuck, it must be replaced.
Test the Harness
If the switch is functioning, trace the wiring harness back to the HCU/HCC module. Look for chafed wires, pinch points, or incompatible/loose connections. Repair any damaged wiring.
Reassemble and Clear
Plug the connector back in, start the tractor, and cycle the switch to verify the 521000.02 code has cleared.
