Massey Ferguson E521002.31 – ECU: SCR Heating Issue SCR System Shutdown (ECU)

The Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system relies on Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF / AdBlue), which freezes at -11°C (12°F). This fault code indicates a critical failure in the heating circuit (such as an open circuit, short circuit, or relay failure). Because the system cannot guarantee the DEF is thawed and flowing, the ECU shuts down the SCR system to prevent damage to the pump and injectors, which will subsequently trigger an engine derate or limp-home mode.

   Test Electrical Resistance: Disconnect the heated lines and the DEF tank heater. Use a multimeter to test the resistance (Ohms) of the heating elements to check for open circuits or short circuits to ground.

Unbolt the supply module/heater assembly from the tank, clean the mounting surface (ensuring absolutely no dirt enters the tank), and install the new module.

   Reconnect all electrical connectors and battery terminals. Refill the DEF tank with fresh, uncontaminated ISO 22241 certified DEF.

   Connect a dealer-level diagnostic tool (such as AGCO EDT, Jaltest, or TEXA) to the tractor. Clear the E521002.31 fault code. Run a forced SCR system test or prime sequence to verify the heaters are drawing the correct amperage and the system pressurizes without leaks.
