Massey Ferguson E521007.10 – Engine ECU (EEM4): SCR system ERROR: DEF backflow line blocked or implausible

The monitoring system has detected an issue with the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) supply module's backflow (return) line. The system is reading that the return flow of DEF to the tank is either physically blocked, mechanically defective, or the pressure/flow readings are implausible. Because this is an emissions-related fault, the engine power will be reduced (derated) after a certain time limit defined by emissions authorities if left uncorrected.

   Inspect the DEF backflow line: Check the physical return line from the DEF supply module to the tank for any blockages, kinks, freezing, or mechanical defects.

   Inspect the connectors: Check the DEF supply module backflow line connector for damage, corrosion, or a poor connection.

   Check the DEF supply module main filter: A clogged or defective main AdBlue/DEF filter can restrict flow and trigger this code.

   Test the DEF fluid quality: Ensure the reducing agent (DEF/AdBlue) has not been contaminated with water, diesel, or debris.

   Clear the Line

   Disconnect the DEF backflow line and clear any physical blockages. If the line is kinked or mechanically damaged, replace the line.

   Service the Connections

   Clean and securely reconnect the DEF supply module backflow line connector.

   Replace the Filter

   Remove the DEF supply module main filter housing cap and replace the AdBlue/DEF filter element (highly recommended if the system has been blocked or if the filter is near its service interval).

   Address Contamination (If Applicable)

   If the DEF fluid is found to be contaminated, drain the DEF tank completely, flush the system, and refill with fresh, high-quality DEF.

   Clear the Code

   Connect a diagnostic service tool to the tractor. Save the error log, then erase the active fault codes.

   Restart the ECU

   Restart the tractor/ECU to verify the warning lamp is deactivated and the engine derate is lifted.
