Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness running from the Engine ECU to the DEF Tank Heater Solenoid Valve for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinch points where the control wire might be shorting to a 12V/24V power source.

  2. Disconnect the pigtail connector at the DEF heater solenoid valve and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture intrusion, or damage.

  3. Perform a harness voltage test with the key ON (engine OFF) and the valve disconnected. Probe the harness side of the connector; if you read constant battery voltage when the heater should be commanded off, the wiring harness is shorted to power or the ECU is faulty.

  4. Measure the resistance (Ohms) across the pins of the DEF Tank Heater Solenoid Valve. If the resistance is completely out of specification (e.g., showing continuity to the valve body/ground or an internal short), the solenoid coil has failed.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

    Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable. Allow the engine and coolant to cool down completely to prevent burns.

  2. Locate the Valve

    Locate the DEF Tank Heater Solenoid Valve (often situated near the DEF tank or spliced into the engine coolant lines routing to the DEF tank module).

  3. Fluid Management

    Place a clean drain pan under the valve area. Use hose pinch-off pliers on the coolant lines on both sides of the valve to minimize coolant loss.

  4. Removal

    Disconnect the electrical connector from the valve. Loosen the hose clamps and carefully pull the coolant hoses off the valve fittings. Remove the mounting bolts/hardware securing the valve to the chassis or bracket, and remove the unit.

  5. Installation

    Mount the new DEF Tank Heater Solenoid Valve and tighten the securing hardware. Reattach the coolant hoses and secure them with the hose clamps. Remove the hose pinch-off pliers. Reconnect the electrical connector until it clicks securely.

  6. Post-Repair

    Reconnect the battery. Top off the engine coolant reservoir to replace any lost fluid. Start the engine, let it reach operating temperature, and check the valve connections for coolant leaks.

  7. Clear Codes

    Use an AGCO-compatible diagnostic scan tool to clear the E521010.14 fault code from the ECU.
