Massey Ferguson 6.00.06 – Transmission Controller (TRANS1): Issue With PTO Solenoid Circuit (Hitch)

This code indicates an electrical fault—such as an open circuit, short to ground, or overcurrent—in the circuit that supplies power to the rear Power Take-Off (PTO) solenoid valve. This solenoid controls the hydraulic fluid flow required to engage the PTO clutch pack. When this circuit fails, the PTO will hesitate, fail to engage, or fail to disengage properly.

   Inspect the main harness and the connector at the PTO solenoid (typically located on the transmission housing) for frayed wires, pulled pins, or corrosion.

   Use a multimeter to test the solenoid coil resistance. A healthy OEM PTO solenoid should read approximately 10 Ohms. An open reading or dead short indicates a burnt-out coil.

   Check for 12V power at the solenoid connector when the PTO switch in the cab is engaged. If there is no power, check the main PTO relays and fuses in the cab load center.

   Ensure the transmission/hydraulic fluid is at the correct level and the filter is clean. Contaminated fluid can cause the mechanical valve to stick, leading to coil overheating.

   Safety First

   Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements, relieve hydraulic system pressure, and disconnect the negative battery cable.

   Locate the Solenoid

   The PTO solenoid valve is mounted to the transmission housing where the hydraulic lines connect to the PTO clutch system (often near the rear axle center section).

   Clean the Area

   Thoroughly clean the mounting surface around the solenoid to prevent dirt from entering the transmission housing when the valve is removed.

   Remove the Faulty Valve

   Disconnect the electrical plug. Unbolt the retaining screws holding the solenoid valve to the housing and carefully pull the valve out.

   Install the New Valve

   Lubricate the new O-rings on the replacement solenoid with clean hydraulic fluid. Insert the new valve into the housing and torque the retaining bolts to OEM specifications.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the electrical harness. Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and top up the hydraulic fluid if any was lost during the swap.

   Test

   Engage the PTO from the cab to ensure smooth operation and verify that the 6.00.06 fault code has cleared.
