Massey Ferguson 6.00.09 – Hitch: Issue With PTO Circuit (Hitch)

   Capture the Full Story: Note exactly when the code appears (e.g., cold start, when the PTO switch is engaged, or when the hitch is moving).

   Check Battery and Voltage Stability: Low voltage or a failing battery circuit can trigger random circuit codes. Test the tractor battery circuit output and inspect the main grounds.

   Inspect the Wiring Harness: Off-road vibration often loosens connectors. Check the harness continuity, connector fit, and pin tension between the PTO command switch, the Hitch controller, and the PTO solenoid. Look for dust, moisture, or chafed wires rubbing on the frame.

   Test the PTO Command Switch: Ensure the switch contacts are opening and closing properly.

   Test the PTO Solenoid Coil: Measure the resistance of the PTO solenoid coil. If it reads an open circuit (infinite resistance) or the resistance is out of range, the coil has a broken internal wire and must be replaced.

   Stabilize Power

   Ensure the battery is fully charged and all ground connections to the Hitch controller are clean and tight.

   Access the PTO Switch

   Remove the instrument panel/console trim to access the rear of the PTO command switch. Disconnect the harness and test the switch for continuity. Replace the switch if it fails to send the engagement signal.

   Access the PTO Solenoid Valve

   Locate the PTO solenoid valve on the hydraulic control block.

   Test/Replace the Solenoid

   Disconnect the 2-pin connector. Use a multimeter to check the coil resistance. If the coil is shorted or open, remove the retaining nut, slide the old coil off the valve stem, and install the new OEM solenoid coil.

   Inspect Mechanicals (If Electrical is OK)

   If the circuit tests fine but the PTO still malfunctions, the issue may be mechanical. Inspect the PTO clutch separator plates and the hydraulic tandem pump for wear.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect all components, turn the key on, clear the stored fault codes, and test the PTO engagement under load.
