Massey Ferguson 6.01.07 – HITCH: Issue With PTO Solenoid Circuit (Hitch)

An electrical fault (such as an open circuit, a short to ground, or a short to power) in the circuit that controls the Power Take-Off (PTO) engagement solenoid. The tractor's computer detects that the voltage or resistance in the PTO solenoid circuit is out of the expected range, preventing the PTO from engaging or causing it to behave erratically.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the PTO solenoid (located on top of the hitch/rear axle area or transmission valve block) for rub points, melted insulation, or broken wires.

   Check the multi-pin plug that routes through the cab floor (often located just behind the gear shift). Clean the pins and ensure a tight connection.

   With the tractor and key off, disconnect the PTO solenoid and use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the two pins of the coil. Infinite means open circuit, close to zero means short circuit. Note: test both directions due to internal diode.

   Turn the key on and engage the PTO switch. Check for 12 volts at the harness connector to ensure the HITCH module is sending the command signal.

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, remove the key, and allow the hydraulic system to depressurize and cool.

   Locate the Valve

   Locate the PTO solenoid valve on the transmission/hitch hydraulic block.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical connector from the solenoid.

   Remove the Solenoid/Valve

   If replacing just the coil: Remove the retaining nut at the top of the valve stem and slide the old coil off. If replacing the entire electrovalve assembly: Clean the area around the valve to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system. Unscrew the valve cartridge from the manifold (have a rag ready to catch a small amount of hydraulic fluid).

   Install the New Part

   Thread the new valve into the manifold and tighten to OEM torque specs, or slide the new coil over the existing stem and secure the retaining nut.

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical harness back into the new coil. (Note: Newer replacement coils often have the connector built directly into the coil body rather than using a pigtail wire).

   Test and Clear Codes

   Start the tractor. Cycle the PTO and hitch switches to clear any startup safety lockouts. Test the PTO engagement. Use a diagnostic tool to clear the 6.01.07 inactive code from the HITCH module.
