Massey Ferguson 6.01.09 – Hitch Module or Transmission Module 1 (TRANS1): Issue With PTO Circuit (Hitch) / PTO Switch Is On But The PTO Is Not Turning

The control module has detected that the operator has engaged the PTO switch, but the system is not registering any rotation at the PTO output shaft. This mismatch typically points to an electrical failure in the engagement circuit (such as a faulty switch, wiring, or solenoid) or a mechanical/hydraulic failure preventing the PTO clutch from engaging.

   Determine if the PTO shaft fails to engage entirely, or if the engine RPM drops significantly when engagement is attempted (which can trigger related anti-stall codes)

   Check the battery voltage and inspect the main grounds to ensure stable electrical power, as low voltage can cause false module readings

   Check the PTO command rocker switch in the cab for continuity and proper signal output

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the rear PTO On/Off Solenoid and speed sensors for vibration damage, chafed wires, or moisture in the pins

   Verify that the PTO engagement solenoid is receiving power when the switch is activated, and check the PTO clutch and output speed sensor signals

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a flat, level surface. Engage the parking brake, turn off the engine, and remove the key. Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts while working on the circuit.

   Switch Replacement

   Carefully pry up or unscrew the side console panel housing the PTO controls. Disconnect the wiring pigtail from the back of the PTO Command Switch. Snap the new OEM rocker switch into place and reconnect the harness.

   Solenoid/Sensor Servicing

   Locate the PTO engagement solenoid and speed sensors on the rear transmission housing. Clean the surrounding area thoroughly to prevent dirt ingress. Unplug the connector, unbolt the faulty sensor/solenoid, and install the replacement part.

   Mechanical Inspection

   If electrical components are functioning, inspect the PTO shaft and seal. If removing the PTO unit or shaft, drain the gearbox oil first. Use a seal puller to remove the old seal and a driver to seat the new one flush.

   Reassembly & Testing

   Reconnect the battery. Start the tractor, engage the PTO switch, and verify that the PTO shaft turns smoothly and the 06.01.09 code clears.
