Massey Ferguson 6.02.07 – HITCH Controller or TRANS1 (Transmission Controller): Issue With PTO Solenoid Circuit (Hitch) / Issue With Rear PTO On/Off Solenoid Power Supply

The control unit has detected a problem in the electrical circuit that powers the Power Take-Off (PTO) engagement solenoid. This is typically caused by an open circuit, a short to ground, a short to power, or a failed solenoid coil. When this code is active, the PTO may hesitate, fail to engage, or fail to disengage.

   Check fuses related to the PTO and Hitch controls (often located below the PTO lever or in the main cab fuse panel)

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the PTO solenoid for rub points, pinched wires, or melted insulation

   Disconnect the plug at the solenoid and inspect the pins for dirt, corrosion, or poor connection

   Test the solenoid coil resistance using a multimeter (an infinite reading indicates an open/burnt coil)

   Perform a manual click test: with the tractor and key off, disconnect the coil and quickly touch a 12-volt power source across the terminals to listen for a distinct click

   Safety First

   Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery.

   Relieve Hydraulic Pressure

   Cycle the hydraulic and PTO levers to relieve any residual pressure in the system.

   Locate the Solenoid

   Find the PTO solenoid valve. It is typically mounted on the transmission housing where the hydraulic lines connect to the PTO clutch system, or on the top of the rear hitch valve block.

   Remove the Faulty Solenoid

   Disconnect the electrical connector. Unbolt or unscrew the solenoid cartridge from the valve body. Have a catch pan ready, as a small amount of hydraulic fluid will leak out.

   Install the New Solenoid

   Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean hydraulic fluid. Thread it into the valve body and tighten to the manufacturer's torque specification (do not overtighten, as this can bind the internal spool).

   Reconnect and Test

   Reconnect the electrical harness. Reconnect the battery.

   Fluid Check

   Check the transmission/hydraulic fluid level and top up if necessary. Dirty or low fluid is a leading cause of premature solenoid failure. Start the tractor and test the PTO engagement.
