Massey Ferguson 6.X.07 – Transmission Control Module (TCM) / PTO/Linkage Console Module: Rear PTO Solenoid Valve (Component X7) is in an open circuit
Issue description
The control module is sending a signal to the PTO solenoid but is not detecting the expected electrical resistance in return. This condition is typically caused by a disconnected plug, a broken wire in the harness, or a burnt-out solenoid coil.

Check the cause
Visual Inspection: Locate the X7 Rear PTO solenoid valve on the rear transmission/hydraulic valve block. Check the electrical connector for loose pins, moisture, or heavy dirt ingress.
Coil Resistance Test: Disconnect the harness from the solenoid. Use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the pins of the solenoid coil. If it reads infinite resistance (OL), the coil is internally broken (open) and must be replaced.
Harness Continuity: If the coil tests good, check the wiring harness between the solenoid connector and the transmission/PTO control module. Look for chafed wires or broken grounds, which are common in off-road conditions.
Voltage Test: With the tractor key ON (and safety interlocks met), probe the harness side of the connector while a helper toggles the PTO switch to ensure 12V is reaching the valve.
Repair steps
Prep the Machine
Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
Clean the Area
Thoroughly clean the area around the rear PTO hydraulic valve block to prevent dirt from contaminating the transmission/hydraulic fluid.
Disconnect Harness
Unplug the electrical connector from the X7 PTO solenoid valve.
Remove the Solenoid
Depending on the exact valve block revision, either remove the retaining nut at the end of the valve stem to slide the electromagnetic coil off, or use a wrench to back out the entire solenoid cartridge valve assembly.
Install the New Part
Slide the new coil onto the stem (or thread the new cartridge into the block). Tighten to OEM torque specifications (do not overtighten the coil retaining nut, as it can warp the sleeve and cause the valve to stick).
Reassembly
Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring the weather-pack seal clicks into place.
Test
Reconnect the battery. Start the tractor, clear the stored 6.X.07 fault code via the dash or diagnostic tool, and engage the PTO to confirm normal operation.
