Check the cause
Inspect the X128 Rear PTO ON/OFF Switch for mechanical binding or sticking (e.g., pressed down for over 30 seconds)
Check the wiring harness and connections between the X128 switch and the TRANS1 module for continuity issues, shorts, or corrosion at the connector pins
Verify the PTO clutch speed sensor (X15) and PTO shaft speed sensor (X16) are reading correctly (if the switch works but sensors report 0 RPM, the issue may be the sensors or clutch)
Inspect the rear PTO solenoid valve (X7) to ensure it is receiving the electrical command to engage and is functioning mechanically
Repair steps
Preparation
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to ensure electrical safety.
Access the Switch
Locate the X128 Rear PTO ON/OFF switch, which is typically located on the right-hand console or the rear fender depending on the exact model. Carefully pry up or remove the surrounding trim/paneling to access the rear of the switch.
Disconnect
Unplug the electrical harness connector from the back of the switch.
Test
Use a multimeter to test the switch for proper continuity when toggled. If it fails the continuity test or is physically sticking, proceed with replacement.
Replace
Snap the new OEM PTO switch into the console/fender housing and reconnect the wiring harness.
Reassemble
Reinstall the trim panels.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the 6.X.09 fault code from the TRANS1 module.
Test Operation
Start the tractor and engage the PTO to verify the repair.
