Massey Ferguson 6.X.1E – Rear chassis controller or combined Hitch/PTO module: The PTO switch is activated but the PTO speed is equal to 0.

When the operator engages the PTO switch, the control system expects to see rotational speed feedback from the rear PTO shaft. This code triggers when the command is sent to engage the PTO, but the X776 - Rear PTO end-fitting speed sensor registers zero rotation.

   Visual/Operational Check: Safely engage the PTO and observe the rear shaft. If the shaft is NOT spinning, the issue is likely hydraulic or mechanical (e.g., failed PTO clutch, bad PTO engagement solenoid, or hydraulic pressure issue). If the shaft IS spinning, the issue is electrical.

   Wiring Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness leading to the X776 Rear PTO speed sensor on the rear axle housing. Look for chafed wires, vibration damage, or a loose/corroded connector.

   Sensor Resistance Test: Disconnect the sensor and test it with a multimeter. A healthy sensor typically reads a resistance of approximately 540 Ohms. If it reads an open circuit or is shorted, the sensor has failed internally.

   Ensure the tractor is turned off, the key is removed, and the machine is parked safely.

   Safety precaution before beginning repair.

   Locate the X776 Rear PTO end-fitting speed sensor on the rear PTO/axle housing.

   Identify the sensor location.

   Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the sensor.

   Prepare the sensor for removal.

   Unscrew the faulty sensor from the housing.

   Note: standard OEM sensors typically have a 32mm thread length.

   Clean the mounting port to ensure no debris falls into the housing.

   Prevent contamination of the housing.

   Install the new genuine Massey Ferguson PTO speed sensor and tighten it to OEM specifications.

   Install the replacement sensor.

   Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring the connector clicks securely into place.

   Restore electrical connection.

   Start the tractor, clear the stored fault codes, and engage the PTO to verify that the speed is now registering on the dash/telemetry and the code does not return.

   Test the repair to ensure the issue is resolved.
