   Verify Operator Operation: Confirm that the operator is not manually over-revving the tractor past 1780 RPM in ECO PTO mode, as this will trigger the code by design.

   Inspect the X481 Engine Speed Sensor: If the engine is not actually over-revving but the code logs anyway, check the sensor and its wiring.

   Wiring & Connector Check: Inspect the 2-pin connector at the X481 sensor (Pin 1: Signal, Pin 2: Ground). Look for corrosion, pushed-out pins, or harness damage.

   Resistance Test: With the engine stopped and at ambient temperature, disconnect the sensor and measure its resistance. A healthy sensor typically reads 450 Ohms (± 20 Ohms).

   Signal Test: Check for an alternating voltage (AC) signal from the sensor while the engine is turning.

   Harness Continuity: Test the harness back to the transmission controller for continuity, shorts to ground, or shorts to power.

   Operator Education (If applicable)

   Instruct the operator to keep the hand/foot throttle below 1780 RPM when the PTO is shifted into the Economy (ECO) gear.

   Disconnect Power

   If sensor replacement is required, turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal.

   Locate the Sensor

   Locate the X481 Engine Speed Sensor (typically mounted on the engine block/bell housing reading the flywheel teeth).

   Remove the Faulty Sensor

   Unplug the 2-pin electrical connector. Remove the retaining bolt and carefully pull the sensor out of its bore.

   Install the New Sensor

   Lubricate the O-ring on the new OEM sensor, insert it into the bore, and torque the retaining bolt to OEM specifications.

   Reconnect and Clear Codes

   Reconnect the 2-pin harness. Reconnect the battery. Use the Massey Ferguson EDT (Electronic Diagnostic Tool) or Wintest software to clear the 6.X.E2 fault code.

   Test Run

   Start the tractor, engage the ECO PTO, and slowly increase RPMs (staying below 1780) to verify the sensor reads accurately and the code does not return.
