Massey Ferguson 62 – Armrest Autotronic 5: FingerTIP 6 front linkage function - Short circuit to 12V

The control module is receiving a continuous high voltage (battery voltage) on the signal circuit. This is typically caused by an internal short inside the switch itself, a wiring harness rubbed through and touching a power wire, or liquid damage inside the armrest console.

   Inspect the FingerTIP 6 switch (Component X130) on the armrest for physical damage, sticking, or signs of liquid spills.

   Inspect the armrest wiring harness, especially the instrument panel harness/armrest harness junction (Component X132), for pinched wires, chafing, or bent pins.

   Using a multimeter, test the signal wire from the X130 switch to the Armrest Autotronic 5 ECU for continuity and verify if it is improperly receiving 12V from an adjacent power wire.

   Temporarily swap the FingerTIP 6 switch with an adjacent switch (e.g., FingerTIP 5). If the fault code changes to AR 52, the switch is internally shorted. If it remains AR 62, the issue is in the wiring harness or ECU.

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical spikes or further damage to the Autotronic ECUs during disassembly.

   Access the Armrest Console

   Carefully remove the retaining screws and lift the top cover of the armrest control console to expose the underside of the FingerTIP switch bank.

   Disconnect the Switch

   Locate Component X130 (the 6th FingerTIP switch controlling the front linkage) and unplug its electrical connector.

   Remove the Faulty Switch

   Unclip or unscrew the faulty FingerTIP module from the armrest housing.

   Install the New Part

   Seat the replacement FingerTIP switch into the console and secure it.

   Reconnect Wiring

   Plug the electrical harness back into the new switch, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place.

   Reassembly

   Reinstall the armrest console cover and tighten all fasteners.

   Clear Codes and Calibrate

   Reconnect the battery and turn the ignition on. Clear the fault codes using the instrument panel diagnostic menu or a dealer diagnostic scanner.

   Test the front linkage to ensure the new switch operates smoothly and the fault code does not return. (Note: Depending on the exact model year, a new proportional switch may require a brief calibration routine via the tractor's terminal so the ECU can learn its zero and maximum voltage values).
