Massey Ferguson 626.06 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Engine Intake Heater High Amps

Grid heater relay current above normal or short to GROUND. The engine controller has detected an excessive current draw on the control circuit for the intake manifold grid heater relay, which almost always indicates a short circuit to ground in the relay itself or the wiring harness.

   Inspect the grid heater relay terminals for melting, arcing, or severe corrosion

   Test the relay coil resistance using a multimeter to check for an internal short or continuity to the relay casing

   Check the wiring harness between the ECU and the relay block for chafed, pinched, or melted insulation causing a short to ground

   Inspect the heavy-gauge power cable running from the relay to the intake manifold grid heater element to ensure it hasn't rubbed through and shorted against the engine block

   Disconnect battery

   Turn off the ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable.

   Locate relay

   Locate the grid heater relay. Depending on the model, this is usually found in the engine compartment relay box or mounted near the starter motor.

   Repair wiring harness

   If the wiring harness is damaged and shorting to ground, cut out the damaged section, solder in a new piece of wire, seal it with heat-shrink tubing, and re-loom the harness.

   Replace relay

   If the wiring is intact, the relay is likely internally shorted. Remove the faulty 70-Amp relay and plug in the replacement.

   Reconnect battery

   Reconnect the battery.

   Reset system

   To clear the code without a service tool, perform an EEM4 system reset by turning the ignition OFF for a minimum of 60 seconds, then turning it back ON. Alternatively, use an AGCO diagnostic service tool to clear the inactive fault.

   Verify repair

   Start the tractor and verify the code does not return during the cold-start pre-heating cycle.
