Massey Ferguson E651.14 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Injector Number 1 Short Circuit

The control module has detected an electrical short on the circuit operating the #1 cylinder's fuel injector. This indicates a short circuit between the injector cables or a short to ground, which prevents the injector from firing correctly.

   Visual Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness running from the ECU to Injector #1 for chafed wire insulation, melted loom, or pinched wires that could be shorting against the engine block or each other.

   Harness Continuity Test: Disconnect the electrical connector at Injector #1 and at the ECU. Use a multimeter to check for continuity between the two injector wires and check for continuity from each wire to the engine ground.

   Injector Resistance Test: If the wiring harness tests fine, measure the internal resistance across the pins of Injector #1. A reading of zero or near-zero ohms indicates the injector's internal solenoid has shorted out.

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical spikes during the repair.

   Wiring Repair

   If the diagnostic tests revealed a harness short, repair the damaged section of the wiring or replace the injector harness.

   Injector Replacement

   Clean the area around Injector #1 thoroughly. Remove the high-pressure fuel line and the hold-down clamp/bolt. Carefully extract the shorted injector and its copper sealing washer. Install the new injector with a new copper washer, torque the hold-down clamp to OEM specifications, and reinstall the high-pressure fuel line.

   Calibration

   Use a diagnostic tool to program the new injector's specific calibration trim code (printed on the injector body) into the ECU to prevent fault code E651.13.

   Test

   Reconnect the battery, bleed the fuel system if necessary, clear the ECU fault codes, and test run the tractor to ensure the code does not return.
