Massey Ferguson 652.05 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EEM (Engine Electronic Module): Injector Number 2 Low Amp Draw / Injector #2 Circuit Has High Resistance / Open Circuit

Issue description

The control module has detected an open electrical circuit or abnormally high resistance in the wiring or the solenoid coil of the fuel injector for engine cylinder #2.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness running from the Engine ECU to the cylinder #2 fuel injector for chafed wires, melted insulation, or physical breaks.

  2. Disconnect the electrical plug at injector #2 and the main ECU harness connector to check for loose, backed-out, or corroded pins.

  3. Using a multimeter, measure the continuity of the two wires from the ECU connector pins to the injector connector (resistance should be near zero ohms).

  4. Measure the resistance across the two pins directly on the cylinder #2 fuel injector. If the multimeter reads 'OL' (open loop) or an abnormally high resistance compared to the other injectors, the injector solenoid has failed internally.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

    Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts or ECU damage.

  2. Repair Wiring

    If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken wire or corroded connector, repair the harness section or replace the pigtail connector. Reconnect and test.

  3. Replace Injector

    Clean the area around injector #2 thoroughly to prevent debris from entering the engine. Loosen and remove the high-pressure fuel line connecting the common rail to the injector. Cap the rail fitting immediately. Disconnect the electrical connector and the fuel return (leak-off) line. Remove the injector hold-down clamp bolt and carefully extract the injector from the cylinder head. Ensure the old copper sealing washer is removed from the injector bore. Clean the bore. Install the new injector with a new copper sealing washer. Reinstall the hold-down clamp and torque to OEM specifications. Reconnect the high-pressure fuel line, return line, and electrical connector.

  4. ECU Calibration

    Reconnect the battery. Use a diagnostic tool to program the new injector's specific calibration code (QR code or alphanumeric string printed on the top) into the Engine ECU so it can adjust the fueling properly.

  5. Clear Codes

    Clear the 000652.05 fault code and run the engine to check for leaks and verify the misfire/code is resolved.
