Massey Ferguson 652.14 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Injector Number 2 Short Circuit
Issue description
The engine controller has detected an electrical short circuit on the circuit operating the fuel injector for cylinder number 2. This could be a short to ground, a short to voltage, or an internal short within the injector's electromagnetic coil. When this occurs, the engine will typically derate its power (often limiting speed to 1500–1800 RPM) or shut down to prevent damage.

Check the cause
Wiring Harness Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness running from the Engine ECU to Injector #2. Look for chafed insulation, melted wires, or areas where the harness rubs against the engine block, causing a short to ground.
Injector Resistance Test: Disconnect the electrical connector from Injector #2 and use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the injector coil pins. A healthy resistance is typically between 0.22 and 0.28 Ω. A reading of 0 Ω (or significantly lower than the spec) confirms an internal short circuit within the injector.
Insulation Test: Test for continuity between the injector pins and the metal body of the injector. Any continuity indicates an internal short to ground.
Inductance Test: If you have an advanced diagnostic tool (like the SIT-12), measure the coil inductance. It should read approximately 100 – 120 uH.
Repair steps
Preparation
Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical spikes. Clean the area around Injector #2 thoroughly to prevent dirt from entering the engine or fuel system.
Removal
Disconnect the electrical connector from the injector. Remove the high-pressure fuel line connecting the fuel rail to the injector. Remove the injector hold-down clamp/bolt.
Extraction
Carefully pull the injector out of the cylinder head. Remove the old copper sealing washer from the bottom of the bore (do not leave it inside).
Installation
Clean the injector bore. Install the new injector using a brand new copper sealing washer and O-rings.
Reassembly
Reinstall the hold-down clamp and torque to OEM specifications. Reconnect the high-pressure fuel line (note: some Bosch systems require replacing the connector tube when replacing the injector). Reconnect the electrical harness.
Bleeding & Calibration
Bleed the fuel system of air. Reconnect the battery. Using an AGCO diagnostic tool (WinEEM3/WinEEM4) or a compatible aftermarket scanner (e.g., TEXA), clear the fault codes and program the new injector's calibration code (IQA code, printed on the top of the new injector) into the ECU.
