Massey Ferguson 654.05 – ECU: Injector Number 4 Low Amp Draw
Issue description
The control module is detecting that the electrical current (amperage) flowing to the electronic fuel injector on cylinder #4 is lower than the required threshold. This condition typically points to an open circuit, a disconnected plug, damaged wiring (high resistance), or a failed internal solenoid within the injector itself.

Check the cause
Note if the tractor is experiencing hard starting, rough idling, loss of power, or abnormal smoke, which are classic symptoms of a dropped cylinder/failing injector.
Inspect the wiring harness leading to the #4 cylinder injector. Look for chafed wires, melted insulation, or a loose/unclipped connector.
Disconnect the plug at injector #4. Check for corrosion, moisture, or bent pins inside the connector.
Using a multimeter, measure the resistance across the terminals of the #4 injector solenoid. Compare this reading to a known good injector (e.g., cylinder #3). If the resistance is infinitely high (open) or out of specification, the injector has failed internally.
Check the continuity of the wires from the injector connector back to the ECU pinout to rule out a broken wire in the main harness.
Repair steps
Prep the machine
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
Clean the area
Thoroughly clean the area around the #4 injector to prevent dirt or debris from falling into the cylinder head or fuel rail during removal.
Remove fuel lines
Carefully loosen and remove the high-pressure fuel line and the return line connected to the #4 injector. Cap the rail and lines immediately.
Extract the injector
Remove the injector hold-down clamp/bolt and carefully pull the injector from the cylinder head.
Install the new injector
Ensure the injector bore is clean. Install the new injector using a new copper sealing washer and O-rings. Torque the hold-down clamp to the OEM specification.
Reconnect lines and wiring
Reinstall the high-pressure and return fuel lines. Reconnect the electrical harness plug until it clicks securely.
ECU calibration
Use a diagnostic tool to program the new injector's calibration code (trim code) into the ECU. Failure to do so may trigger a related fault code (e.g., 000654.13 - Injector Number 4 Calibration Code Issue).
Bleed the system
Prime and bleed the fuel system to remove any air locks introduced during the repair.
Test operation
Reconnect the battery, start the engine, check for fuel leaks, and verify that the fault code has cleared and the engine runs smoothly.
