Massey Ferguson E654.05 – Engine ECU: Injector Number 4 Low Amp Draw
Issue description
The engine controller is detecting that the electrical current flowing to the fuel injector solenoid on cylinder #4 is lower than the expected threshold. This condition is typically caused by an open circuit, high resistance in the wiring harness, a loose or corroded connector, or an internal failure (open coil) within the injector solenoid itself.

Check the cause
Visual Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness running from the Engine ECU to the cylinder #4 injector. Look for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinch points.
Connector Check: Disconnect the electrical plug at Injector #4 and at the ECU. Inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-back terminals.
Injector Solenoid Resistance Test (Injector Cause): Using a multimeter, measure the resistance across the two pins directly on the cylinder #4 injector. An infinite reading (OL) or a reading significantly out of OEM specification indicates an internal open circuit, meaning the injector has failed.
Harness Continuity Test (Wiring Cause): Measure the continuity of the two wires from the injector connector back to the ECU harness connector. High resistance or no continuity indicates a broken wire in the harness.
Repair steps
Preparation
Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts or ECU damage. Clean the area around cylinder #4 thoroughly to prevent debris from entering the engine block or fuel system.
Removal
Disconnect the electrical connector from Injector #4. Remove the high-pressure fuel injector pipe connecting the common rail to the injector. Disconnect the fuel leak-off (return) pipe from the injector. Remove the injector hold-down clamp/bolt and carefully extract the injector from the cylinder head.
Installation
Install the new injector, ensuring you use a new copper sealing washer at the base. Reinstall the hold-down clamp and torque the bolt to the OEM specification. Reconnect the high-pressure fuel line and the leak-off pipe, torquing the fittings to spec. Reconnect the electrical connector.
ECU Calibration
You must program the new injector's QR code / calibration code into the Engine ECU using an AGCO diagnostic tool (EDT). If you skip this step, the ECU will log a secondary fault code: 654.13 (Injector #4 Calibration Fault).
Finalizing
Reconnect the battery, prime/bleed the fuel system if required by the specific engine manual, start the tractor, and clear the inactive fault codes from the ECU.
