Massey Ferguson 654.13 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Injector Number 4 Calibration Code Issue

Issue description

The calibration value for Cylinder No. 4 Injector is missing, invalid, or mismatched. This usually happens if an injector was replaced but not programmed, if the ECU was replaced/flashed and lost its memory, or if the ECU detects a software corruption regarding that specific cylinder's data.

Check the cause

  1. Verify the Code: Connect a compatible diagnostic scan tool and read the active engine faults.

  2. Read ECU Injector Data: Navigate to the ECU's injector coding/calibration menu and look at the alphanumeric code currently programmed for Cylinder #4.

  3. Visual Inspection: Locate Injector #4 on the engine block and read the physical calibration code stamped or printed on the top/side of the injector head.

  4. Compare: Check if the physical code on Injector #4 matches the code programmed in the ECU.

  5. Check for Recent Service: Determine if the engine, ECU, or Injector #4 was recently replaced without performing the coding procedure.

Repair steps

  1. Connect diagnostic scan tool

    Connect your diagnostic scan tool to the tractor's diagnostic port.

  2. Turn ignition ON

    Turn the ignition key to the ON position (engine off).

  3. Access ECU module

    Access the Engine ECU module and navigate to the 'Calibrations,' 'Programming,' or 'Injector Coding' section.

  4. Select Cylinder #4

    Select Cylinder #4.

  5. Enter calibration code

    Manually type in the exact calibration code printed on the physical injector.

  6. Save configuration

    Save/Write the new configuration to the ECU.

  7. Cycle ignition key

    Cycle the ignition key (turn it off, wait 30 seconds for the ECU to power down, then turn it back on).

  8. Verify repair

    Clear the fault codes and start the engine to verify the code does not return.

  9. Clean injector area

    If the injector is faulty and must be replaced, clean the area around Injector #4 to prevent debris from entering the cylinder.

  10. Disconnect injector

    Disconnect the electrical connector and the high-pressure fuel line from the injector.

  11. Remove injector

    Remove the injector hold-down clamp and carefully extract the injector.

  12. Record new code

    Before installing the new injector, write down its calibration code.

  13. Install new injector

    Install the new injector with a new copper sealing washer. Torque the hold-down clamp and fuel lines to OEM specifications.

  14. Reconnect harness

    Reconnect the electrical harness.

  15. Program new injector

    Follow the programming steps to write the new injector's calibration code into the ECU.

  16. Bleed fuel system

    Bleed the fuel system if necessary, start the tractor, and clear the codes.
