Massey Ferguson 654.14 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Injector Number 4 Short Circuit

The engine controller has detected a short circuit in the electrical circuit controlling the fuel injector for cylinder number 4.

   Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to Injector Number 4 for chafing, melted insulation, or exposed wires that could be shorting to ground or another wire.

   Disconnect the harness at Injector 4 and at the ECU. Inspect the pins for water/oil intrusion, corrosion, or bent/spread pins.

   Using a multimeter, measure the resistance across the injector solenoid pins. A reading of zero (or near zero) ohms indicates an internal short in the injector solenoid.

   With both ends disconnected, test the wiring harness for continuity to ground and continuity between the two injector wires to rule out a harness short.

   Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 60 seconds, then turn it back on to see if the code clears or returns immediately as an active fault.

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical damage during repair.

   Repair Wiring

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a short in the wiring harness, repair the damaged section using proper splicing techniques and heat shrink, or replace the injector pigtail/harness.

   Replace Injector

   If the harness is intact and the injector solenoid failed the resistance test, the injector must be replaced. Clean the area around Injector 4 thoroughly, remove the high-pressure fuel line and the return line, remove the hold-down clamp, and carefully extract the injector. Install the new injector with a new copper sealing washer and O-rings. Torque the hold-down clamp and fuel lines to OEM specifications.

   Program the ECU

   Use an AGCO EDT (Electronic Diagnostic Tool) or equivalent EEM4 service tool to enter the new injector's calibration/QR code into the ECU.

   Test

   Reconnect the battery, bleed the fuel system if necessary, start the engine, and verify that the fault code is cleared and the engine runs smoothly.
