Massey Ferguson 655.05 – Engine ECU (EEM4): Injector Number 5 Low Amp Draw

Issue description

The engine management system has detected that the electrical current flowing to the cylinder #5 electronic fuel injector is below normal expectations, indicating an open circuit or abnormally high resistance in the injector wiring or the injector solenoid itself. This typically results in heavily reduced engine power (Degradation Level 3) and an active warning lamp.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the electrical connector at cylinder #5 for loose pins, corrosion, or physical damage

  2. Trace the wiring harness from the Engine ECU to the #5 injector, looking for chafing, breaks, or a short-to-ground that could cause an open circuit reading

  3. Measure resistance across the injector solenoid terminals with a multimeter and compare to a known good injector (a reading of infinite resistance/OL confirms a failed injector solenoid)

  4. Perform an actuator test on the cylinder #5 injector using a PC Service Tool (like AGCO EDT) to verify if the ECU can command it

Repair steps

  1. Safety First

    Turn off the ignition and wait a minimum of 60 seconds for the EEM4 system to perform a system reset and power down. Disconnect the battery negative terminal.

  2. Access the Injector

    Remove the engine covers/valve cover as necessary to access the common rail and fuel injectors.

  3. Clean the Area

    Thoroughly clean the area around the #5 injector to prevent dirt from entering the cylinder or fuel system.

  4. Disconnect Electrical and Fuel Lines

    Unplug the electrical connector from the #5 injector. Disconnect the high-pressure fuel line from the common rail to the injector. Cap the rail fitting immediately to prevent contamination.

  5. Remove the Injector

    Remove the injector hold-down clamp/bolt and carefully extract the injector from the cylinder head.

  6. Install the New Injector

    Install the replacement injector using a new copper sealing washer and new O-rings. Torque the hold-down clamp to OEM specifications.

  7. Reconnect Lines

    Reconnect the high-pressure fuel line and torque to spec. Reconnect the electrical harness.

  8. Calibration

    Use the AGCO diagnostic service tool to program the new injector's QR/calibration code into the Engine ECU. Failure to do so will trigger a calibration fault (e.g., 000655.13).

  9. Prime and Test

    Reconnect the battery, prime the fuel system, start the engine, and check for leaks. Clear the 000655.05 fault code using the diagnostic tool.
