E656.13

Massey Ferguson E656.13 – Engine ECU (Engine Control Unit): Injector Number 6 Calibration Code Issue

Issue description

The Engine Control Unit (ECU) has lost, rejected, or detected an invalid calibration code (also known as an IQA or IMA code) for the fuel injector installed in cylinder number 6. If this code is missing or mismatched, the engine may derate or run poorly.

Applies to these machines

  • 7614
  • 7615
  • 7616
  • 7618
  • 7619
  • 7620
  • 7622
  • 7624
  • 7626
  • Interim Tier 4 (2012-2015)
  • 7714 through 7726S
  • 4707
  • 4708
  • 4709
  • 5600

Check the cause

  1. Verify Engine Configuration: Confirm the machine actually has a 6-cylinder engine (phantom codes can appear on 3- or 4-cylinder models).

  2. Read the Physical Code: Locate fuel injector #6 (typically closest to the cab/rear of the engine block) and write down the alphanumeric calibration code printed on the top of the injector solenoid.

  3. Check ECU Programming: Connect the AGCO EDT (Electronic Diagnostic Tool) to the tractor. Navigate to the Engine ECU and view the programmed injector codes. Compare the code programmed for cylinder #6 against the physical code you wrote down.

  4. Inspect the Harness: Briefly inspect the wiring harness to Injector #6 to ensure there are no shorts or open circuits causing data communication errors to the injector.

Repair steps

  1. Reprogram the Injector

Using the AGCO EDT diagnostic tool, navigate to the Injector Programming/Calibration menu in the Engine ECU.

  2. Enter the Code

Manually type in the correct calibration code found on the physical Injector #6.

  3. Save and Clear

Save the configuration to the ECU, then clear the active E656.13 fault code.

  4. Test Run

Cycle the ignition key, start the engine, and verify that the code does not return.

  5. Replace if Necessary

If the ECU refuses to accept the calibration code, or if the injector is electrically/mechanically failed, you must replace Injector #6.

  6. Program the New Injector

After installing a replacement injector, you must use the diagnostic tool to program the new injector's unique calibration code into the ECU, or the E656.13 code will immediately return.
