656.13

Massey Ferguson 656.13 – Engine ECU: Injector Number 6 Calibration Code Issue

Issue description

This fault indicates an issue with the Injector Quantity Adjustment (IQA) code for cylinder #6. The .13 failure mode means the calibration value is missing, invalid, or corrupted in the module's memory.

Check the cause

  1. Read the physical IQA calibration code printed on the top/side of Injector #6

  2. Connect a compatible diagnostic tool (e.g., AGCO EDT) and navigate to the 'Calibration' or 'Injector IQA codes' screen

  3. Check if the IQA code programmed in the ECU for cylinder #6 matches the physical code on the injector

  4. If the tractor has an aftermarket tune, verify that the tuner did not corrupt the IQA memory block

  5. Ensure there are no accompanying circuit codes (like 000656.05 or 000656.14) which would indicate a physical wiring harness failure to the injector

Repair steps

  1. Scenario A: Reprogram Missing/Corrupted Code

Connect the AGCO EDT (Electronic Diagnostic Tool) to the tractor's diagnostic port. Navigate to the Calibration (Injector IQA codes) menu. Select Cylinder #6 and input the correct alphanumeric IQA code read directly from the installed injector.

  2. Save and Verify

Save the configuration to the Engine ECU. Clear the fault codes and cycle the key. Run the engine to verify the code does not return and that there is no injector cackle or rough idle.

  3. Scenario B: Replace Faulty Injector

Clean the area around Injector #6 to prevent debris from entering the fuel system. Remove the high-pressure fuel line and the electrical connector from the injector. Remove the injector hold-down clamp and extract the faulty injector.

  4. Record New IQA Code

CRITICAL STEP: Before installing the new injector, write down its new IQA calibration code.

  5. Install New Injector

Install the new injector with a new copper sealing washer and O-ring. Torque the hold-down clamp and fuel lines to OEM specifications.

  6. Program New Injector

Connect the AGCO EDT diagnostic tool, navigate to the Injector Calibration menu, and program the new IQA code into the ECU for cylinder #6.

  7. Bleed and Test

Bleed the low-pressure fuel system if necessary (trapped air is a common cause of post-repair drivability issues). Clear the 000656.13 fault code and test run the tractor under load.
