Massey Ferguson E656.14 – Engine ECU (Electronic Control Unit): Injector Number 6 Short Circuit (ECU)

The engine control system has detected a short circuit in the electrical circuit for the #6 fuel injector. This can be caused by an internal short within the injector coil itself, or a short circuit in the wiring harness connecting the injector to the controller.

   Measure injector coil resistance using a multimeter or diagnostic tool (expected: 0.22 – 0.28 Ω). A lower reading indicates an internal short in the injector coil.

   Disconnect the injector harness and test the wiring back to the ECU for a short circuit to ground or battery voltage (+).

   Perform an insulation test to verify there is no continuity between the injector electrical pins and the metal body of the injector (short to ground).

   Preparation

   Disconnect the tractor's battery. Thoroughly clean the injectors, fuel tubes, and the surrounding cylinder head area to prevent debris from entering the engine.

   Disconnection

   Separate the high-pressure fuel injection tubes and disconnect the electrical cables from the injector.

   Removal

   Loosen and remove the injector mounting screw/clamp. Carefully extract the injector from the cylinder head.

   Sealing

   Immediately place a plastic plug in each point of the injector connection to prevent contamination. Remove the old injector sealing ring (copper washer) from the cylinder head, as it must not be reused.

   Installation

   Install the new or remanufactured injector with a brand-new sealing ring. Secure the mounting screw to the OEM torque specification.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the fuel lines and the electrical harness.

   Bleeding & Clearing

   Bleed the fuel system of air (if required by your specific engine model) and use a diagnostic tool to clear the 000656.14 fault code from the ECU.
