Massey Ferguson E723.08 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Electronic Engine Management (EEM4): Camshaft Speed Sensor Signal Issue

The engine control system has detected an invalid, erratic, or missing signal from the camshaft speed sensor. This sensor is a Hall-effect type responsible for sending rotational speed and position data to the engine controller to optimize fuel injection and ignition timing.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the camshaft speed sensor for chafing, breaks, or melted insulation.

   Check the wiring harness resistance. Ensure the 5V/12V supply voltage is reaching the sensor and that the signal lines are not shorted to ground or reversed.

   If a known-good camshaft speed sensor is available, temporarily swap it in to see if the ECU successfully detects the signal and the active fault clears.

   If the sensor and wiring are good, inspect the camshaft trigger wheel for physical damage or debris.

   Preparation

   Turn off the engine, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.

   Locate the Sensor

   Locate the camshaft speed sensor on the engine block/timing cover.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the standard Massey Ferguson electrical connector from the sensor.

   Removal

   Remove the retaining fastener (typically an M6 bolt) and carefully pull the sensor out of its bore.

   Installation

   Insert the new OEM camshaft speed sensor.

   Torque

   Tighten the M6 fastener to the OEM specification of 8 ± 2 Nm (approx. 5.9 lb-ft).

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the electrical connector and reconnect the battery.

   Clear Codes

   Use the WinEEM3s/WinEEM4 service tool or a compatible diagnostic scanner to clear the stored E723.08 fault code from the ECU.
