Massey Ferguson 8.00.16 – Rear Hitch Module (HITCH): Rear Hitch Module Voltage Issue (HITCH)

The tractor's onboard diagnostic system has detected that the electrical voltage supplied to (or circulating within) the rear hitch control circuit is outside the expected operating parameters. This typically points to a low system voltage, a voltage spike, a poor ground connection, damaged wiring, or an internal fault within the module itself.

   System Voltage Check: Use a multimeter to test the tractor's battery voltage. A fully charged battery should read around 12.6V when the tractor is off, and between 13.5V and 14.5V when the alternator is charging.

   Fuse and Relay Inspection: Check the cab fuse panel for any blown fuses or sticking relays associated with the EDC/Rear Hitch circuit.

   Harness and Connector Inspection: Locate the Rear Hitch Module and inspect the wiring harness leading to it. Look for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinch points.

   Pin Testing: Disconnect the module and inspect the connector pins for moisture, dirt, or corrosion.

   Voltage Drop Test: Test the power and ground pins at the module's connector to ensure it is receiving full battery voltage without excessive resistance.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

   Address Wiring/Power Issues

   If the diagnostic checks revealed blown fuses, damaged wires, or corroded grounds, repair these first. Clean corroded connector pins with electrical contact cleaner and apply a small amount of dielectric grease.

   Replace the Module (if necessary)

   If the power and ground circuits test perfectly but the module still registers a voltage fault, the internal circuitry of the Rear Hitch Module has likely failed. Remove the mounting hardware, unplug the harness, and install the replacement module.

   Restore Power and Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery. Connect a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to the tractor's diagnostic port and clear the 08.00.16 DTC.

   Calibrate the Hitch

   If a new module was installed, you must perform the electronic hitch calibration procedure using the diagnostic interface or in-cab sequence so the module can learn the upper and lower limits of the draft pins and position sensors.
