Check the cause

  1. Inspect the hitch transport dampening button for physical damage, sticking, or debris preventing full depression.

  2. Carefully pry up the switch panel and inspect the wiring harness connector at the back of the switch for pushed-out pins, corrosion, or moisture.

  3. Disconnect the switch and use a multimeter to test for continuity across the switch terminals when the button is pressed and released. If it does not show a clear open/closed state, it has failed internally.

  4. Check the wiring harness for continuity between the switch connector and the HITCH module to rule out a broken wire or a short to ground.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Access the Switch

Carefully remove the retaining screws or use a plastic trim tool to unclip the side console/armrest trim panel housing the hitch controls.

  3. Disconnect

Unplug the electrical pigtail connector from the back of the faulty hitch transport dampening switch.

  4. Remove the Switch

Squeeze the retaining tabs on the sides of the rocker switch body and push it upward through the bezel to remove it.

  5. Install the New Part

Snap the new OEM switch into the console panel until the retaining tabs click into place.

  6. Reconnect

Plug the electrical connector back into the switch. Ensure it seats firmly.

  7. Reassemble

Reinstall the console trim panel and secure any screws.

  8. Test

Reconnect the battery. Turn the key to the ON position, clear the stored fault codes via the dash or diagnostic tool, and test the hitch transport dampening function to verify the code 8.00.2B does not return.
