8.00.B4

Massey Ferguson 8.00.B4 – HITCH module: Rear Hitch Module Calibration Issue

Issue description

The controller has lost its calibration values for the rear hitch position, the calibration is out of range, or the system is unable to determine the physical limits of the hitch's travel. This often results in the hitch locking up, jumping, or failing to maintain a set depth.

Check the cause

  1. Check battery voltage during cranking and inspect grounds, as low voltage can cause the controller memory to lose calibration data.

  2. Check for mechanical binding in the external controls and ensure the lifting switch raises the linkage to its mechanical stop with free movement.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors at the rear hitch position sensor for moisture, corrosion, or damage.

  4. Check the position sensor voltage; if the hitch position jumps erratically or refuses to accept a calibration, the sensor is likely faulty.

Repair steps

  1. Reset the Linkage

If the calibration appears to be incorrect (impossible to change position), reset the linkage by pressing the Shock Absorber switch 5 times in quick succession. This forces the controller to drop corrupted data and use default values.

  2. Prepare for Calibration

Set the tractor engine to idle speed.

  3. Launch Calibration

Initiate the calibration procedure via the cab controls or diagnostic tool (the indicator LED will start to flash). The automated calibration takes approximately 1 minute.

  4. Define Limits

Use the controls to define the high and low mechanical stops.

  5. Validate Calibration

Check the maximum linkage travel using the cab controls. Move it to the high position, then the low position. The lowering indicator light should remain illuminated.

  6. Replace Sensor

If the calibration fails repeatedly, the linkage height/position sensor must be replaced, followed by a fresh calibration.
