Massey Ferguson 8.01.16 – Rear Hitch Module (HITCH): Rear Hitch Module Voltage Issue (HITCH)

Issue description

The electronic hitch controller has detected an unstable, missing, or low supply voltage (often dropping below 1 Volt on the stabilized sensor supply circuit). Because the module requires a stable reference voltage (typically 10V or 12V) to power the draft sensors, position sensors, and solenoids, the system will trigger this code and lock (disable) the electrohydraulic lifting gear for safety.

Check the cause

  1. Verify the tractor's battery and alternator output (the EHR module requires a healthy 12V-14V while running).

  2. Check the fuses and relays that supply power to the Rear Hitch Module.

  3. Inspect the main harness connector at the module for corrosion, pushed-out pins, or poor ground connections.

  4. Perform a sensor short-to-ground test: disconnect the rear hitch sensors (draft pins, position sensor) one at a time. If the voltage recovers and the code changes to an open circuit code, the disconnected sensor or its pigtail is shorted.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

    Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal.

  2. Wiring Repair

    If the diagnostic checks revealed a damaged wire in the main power supply or sensor harness, splice and seal the wire using an OEM-approved waterproof connector.

  3. Sensor Replacement

    If a draft pin or position sensor was found to be internally shorted, unbolt the faulty sensor, install the replacement, and route the wiring safely away from pinch points.

  4. Module Replacement

    If the harness provides perfect power and ground to the module, no sensors are shorted, but the module still fails to output sensor reference voltage, the EHR module has failed internally. Unplug the multi-pin connectors, unbolt the module from its mounting bracket, and install the new unit.

  5. Calibration

    Reconnect the battery. Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the DTCs. If the Hitch Module or a position/draft sensor was replaced, you must perform the electronic hitch calibration procedure so the module learns the upper and lower limits.
