Massey Ferguson 8.01.32 – HITCH (Electronic Hitch Control (EHR) module): Issue With Signal From Rear Hitch Left Draft Pin (HITCH)

Issue description

The controller is receiving an erratic, out-of-range, or missing electrical signal from the left-hand draft sensor pin.

Check the cause

  1. Check the left lower link arm and draft pin for heavy mud, dirt accumulation, or physical binding that could cause a false or static signal.

  2. Inspect the 3-pin connector at the left draft pin for water ingress, corrosion, or broken wires.

  3. Test the signal wire running from the left draft pin connector back to the EHR controller for open circuits or short-to-ground.

  4. Perform a swap test by swapping the electrical connectors between the left and right draft pins. If the fault moves to the right side, the pin has failed; if it stays on the left, the issue is in the wiring harness or EHR controller.

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Pressure

    Lower the 3-point hitch completely to the ground. Ensure there is absolutely no weight or tension on the lower link arms.

  2. Disconnect Electronics

    Turn off the tractor battery isolator. Disconnect the electrical connector from the faulty left draft pin.

  3. Remove Hardware

    Remove the retaining bolt, locking plate, or snap ring that secures the draft pin to the tractor chassis casting.

  4. Extract the Pin

    Slide the draft pin out of the chassis and lower link arm. (You may need to support the heavy lower link arm as the pin is removed).

  5. Clean the Bore

    Thoroughly clean the mounting bore with a wire brush and brake cleaner. The new pin must slide in smoothly without binding to measure micro-deflections accurately.

  6. Install New Pin

    Insert the new draft pin. Crucial Step: Ensure the alignment notch or flat edge on the pin is oriented exactly as specified by the OEM (usually facing straight up or aligned with the locking plate). If the pin is rotated incorrectly, it will not measure the horizontal draft force properly.

  7. Reassembly

    Reinstall the retaining hardware and reconnect the electrical harness.

  8. EHR Calibration

    After replacing a draft pin, you must perform an EHR Hitch Calibration procedure via the tractor's dashboard or diagnostic tool. This teaches the EHR controller the new sensor's "zero-load" baseline voltage.
