Massey Ferguson 8.01.51 – HITCH: Issue With Signal From Rear Hitch Left Draft Pin (HITCH)

Issue description

The signal voltage from the left-side draft pin sensor is missing, out of range, or erratic.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and the electrical connector at the left draft pin for physical damage, corrosion, or moisture ingress.

  2. Use a multimeter to verify that the sensor is receiving its reference voltage and ground from the EHR controller.

  3. Swap the left draft pin with the right draft pin. If the fault code changes to the right side, the sensor is defective. If it remains on the left, the issue is in the wiring or HITCH controller.

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Tension

Lower the rear hitch completely to the ground to remove all weight and tension from the lower lift arms. Safely support the left lower lift arm.

  2. Disconnect

Unplug the electrical connector from the left draft pin.

  3. Removal

Remove the retaining hardware (usually a locking bolt or circlip) that secures the draft pin in the linkage bracket. Slide the faulty draft pin out of the housing.

  4. Installation

Clean the bore to remove dirt and rust. Insert the new draft pin, ensuring that the anti-rotation flat/notch is aligned correctly so the sensor measures force in the proper direction.

  5. Reassembly

Reinstall the retaining hardware and plug the electrical connector back in.

  6. Calibration

After replacing a draft sensor, perform an EHR hitch calibration (autocalibration) procedure via the tractor's dashboard or diagnostic tool to teach the HITCH controller the new sensor's zero-load reference voltage.
