Massey Ferguson 8.01.60 – HITCH: Rear Linkage Lower Solenoid Open Circuit (HITCH)
Issue description
The controller is attempting to send an electrical signal to the solenoid responsible for lowering the rear three-point hitch, but it detects an "open circuit" (no electrical continuity). This condition is typically caused by a broken wire in the harness, a disconnected or heavily corroded electrical plug, or a burnt-out solenoid coil.

Check the cause
Locate the rear linkage control valve block and inspect the electrical connector at the lower solenoid. Ensure it is securely plugged in and free of dirt or corrosion.
Trace the wiring harness from the lower solenoid back toward the HITCH module. Look for pinch points, chafing, or broken wires.
Disconnect the plug from the lower solenoid and use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the solenoid coil's pins. If the multimeter reads 'OL' (infinite resistance), the coil is burnt out internally.
With the key on, have an operator initiate a 'lower' command from the cab (ensure you are standing clear of the hitch). Check for 12V power and a good ground at the harness connector.
Repair steps
Safety First
Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and ensure the rear hitch is fully lowered to the ground. If it is stuck in the raised position, mechanically support it so it cannot drop unexpectedly while you are working on the valve block.
Access the Valve
Locate the rear linkage control valve block and identify the lower solenoid (usually paired opposite the raise solenoid).
Disconnect
Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty solenoid.
Remove the Coil
Remove the retaining nut or screw at the end of the valve stem that holds the solenoid coil in place.
Swap Parts
Slide the old coil off the valve stem. Slide the new replacement coil onto the stem and secure it with the retaining nut. (Note: You usually do not need to open the hydraulic system to replace just the electrical coil).
Reconnect
Plug the electrical connector back into the new solenoid.
Clear Codes & Test
Clear the fault code using a compatible diagnostic tool (or cycle the ignition, as some EHR systems self-clear once continuity is restored). Start the tractor and test the rear hitch raise/lower functions to confirm the repair.
