Massey Ferguson 8.01.B4 – Rear Hitch Module (HITCH): Rear Hitch Module Calibration Issue
Issue description
The rear hitch control module has lost its calibration data for the hitch position command, or the current sensor values are out of the acceptable calibration range. As a result, the Electronic Draft Control (EDC) system cannot accurately determine or command the physical position of the rear linkage.

Check the cause
Verify battery voltage and charging system health (low voltage during cranking or operation is a primary cause of controller memory losing calibration data)
Check the rear hitch linkage for free movement to ensure no mechanical binding or debris prevents the hitch from reaching its physical limits
Inspect the rear hitch position sensor's physical gap, orientation, and mounting hardware
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors at the rear hitch module and the position sensor for corrosion, moisture, or damaged pins
Check for related codes that point to a hard electrical failure rather than just a lost calibration (e.g., 08.01.22 or 08.01.16)
Repair steps
Prepare tractor for calibration
Park the tractor on a level surface, ensure the engine is running, and the hydraulic fluid is at normal operating temperature.
Clear rear linkage
Ensure there are no implements attached and the rear linkage is completely free of debris to allow a full range of motion.
Enter calibration mode
Enter the tractor's hitch calibration mode. Depending on the model, this is done either via the dashboard diagnostic display, the Datatronic terminal, or by using the Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool.
Define high and low stops
Follow the on-screen prompts to define the high and low stops of the rear linkage. This typically involves using the hitch control switches to manually lower the hitch to its absolute lowest physical limit, saving the value, and then raising it to its absolute highest physical limit and saving the value.
Establish new baseline
The system will measure the sensor signals and solenoid valve currents to establish the new baseline.
Save and cycle power
Save the calibration and cycle the tractor's key switch.
Replace failed components if necessary
If the hitch jumps, refuses to calibrate, or the code immediately returns, the position sensor or the rear hitch module itself has failed and requires replacement.
