Issue description

The system has detected an abnormally high voltage on the circuit controlling the rear linkage (three-point hitch) raise solenoid. This typically indicates a short circuit to power (+12V) in the wiring harness, a failed solenoid coil, or an internal fault within the controller.

Check the cause

  1. Verify that the tractor's alternator is not overcharging the system (voltage should not exceed ~14.4V when running).

  2. Locate the rear linkage hydraulic valve block and inspect the wiring harness leading to the 'Raise' solenoid for chafing, melted insulation, or pinched wires.

  3. Disconnect the plug at the raise solenoid and check for water ingress, dirt, or corroded pins.

  4. Test the resistance (Ohms) of the solenoid coil to check for internal damage or a dead short.

  5. With the key ON (engine off) and the solenoid disconnected, probe the harness side to see if constant high voltage is present when the hitch is not being commanded to raise.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

    Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent accidental shorting during repair.

  2. Access the Valve Block

    Locate the rear linkage control valve assembly (usually located at the rear of the tractor near the hydraulic lift cover).

  3. Remove the Faulty Solenoid

    Unplug the electrical connector from the raise solenoid. Remove the retaining nut or bolt holding the solenoid coil to the valve stem. Slide the old solenoid coil off the valve cartridge.

  4. Install the New Part

    Slide the new solenoid coil over the stem and secure it with the retaining nut. Do not overtighten, as this can distort the coil.

  5. Reconnect and Reassemble

    Plug the electrical connector back in, ensuring the weather seal is intact. Reconnect the battery.

  6. Clear Codes and Calibrate

    Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the 8.02.12 fault code. It is highly recommended to perform a rear linkage calibration procedure after replacing hydraulic control components to ensure smooth operation.
