Massey Ferguson 8.02.50 – HITCH: Issue With Signal From Rear Hitch Right Draft Pin

Issue description

The signal voltage coming from the right lower link load-sensing pin (draft pin) is outside of its normal, expected operating range. The system detects that the sensor has either failed low (open circuit/short to ground) or failed high (short to power).

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the right draft pin sensor and its 3-pin connector for physical damage, moisture ingress, or severe corrosion.

  2. Test the wiring harness between the right draft pin and the HITCH controller for chafed, damaged, or broken wires.

  3. Disconnect the sensor and turn the key ON to verify that the controller is supplying the correct reference voltage (typically 5V or 8V depending on EDC generation) and a solid ground to the connector pins.

  4. Test the signal wire for a short to ground or a short to the 12V supply.

Repair steps

  1. Relieve mechanical tension

    Lower the rear hitch completely and support the right lower link arm to remove all mechanical tension from the draft pin.

  2. Disconnect battery

    Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

  3. Disconnect electrical plug

    Disconnect the 3-pin electrical plug from the right draft pin sensor.

  4. Remove retaining hardware

    Remove the retaining hardware (usually a locking bolt or retaining pin) that secures the draft pin to the tractor chassis/lower link bracket.

  5. Remove faulty pin

    Slide the faulty draft pin out of the linkage.

  6. Install new pin

    Clean the bore, apply a light coat of anti-seize if recommended by the manual, and install the new OEM load-sensing pin.

  7. Reassemble components

    Reinstall the retaining hardware and reconnect the electrical harness.

  8. Perform calibration

    You must perform a Hitch Controller Calibration (EDC Calibration) procedure. This teaches the HITCH module the new sensor's specific 'no-load' baseline voltage.
