Massey Ferguson 8.03.10 – HITCH: Rear Linkage Raise Solenoid Open Circuit

Issue description

The control module has detected an "open circuit" on the electrical line controlling the rear linkage raise solenoid. This means the electrical path is broken and current cannot flow. This is typically caused by a disconnected plug, a severed wire in the harness, a corroded pin, or a burned-out solenoid coil (which creates infinite resistance).

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the electrical connector at the rear linkage raise solenoid (located on the rear hydraulic valve block) for corrosion, dirt, or being physically unplugged.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness running from the HITCH module to the solenoid for rub points, pinched wires, or breaks.

  3. Disconnect the solenoid and use a multimeter to measure the resistance (ohms) across the solenoid coil pins. If the reading is 'OL' (infinite resistance), the internal coil is broken (open) and the solenoid must be replaced.

  4. Verify that the ground connection to the valve block and the power supply from the EHR module are intact.

Repair steps

  1. Safety First

    Turn off the tractor, lower the rear linkage to the ground (if possible) to relieve hydraulic pressure, and disconnect the battery negative terminal.

  2. Locate the Solenoid

    Find the EHR valve block at the rear of the tractor. Identify the specific solenoid responsible for the "Raise" function.

  3. Disconnect Wiring

    Unplug the electrical harness connector from the raise solenoid.

  4. Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

    If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken wire or damaged connector plug, splice in a new wire or replace the pigtail connector.

  5. Replace Solenoid (If Applicable)

    If the coil failed the resistance test, remove the retaining nut or clip holding the solenoid coil to the hydraulic valve stem. Slide the old coil off. Slide the new replacement coil onto the stem and secure it with the retaining nut/clip.

  6. Reassemble

    Reconnect the wiring harness to the new solenoid.

  7. Clear Codes & Test

    Reconnect the battery. Turn the ignition on and use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the 08.03.10 DTC. Start the tractor and test the rear hitch raise/lower functions to confirm the repair.
