Massey Ferguson 8.03.60 – HITCH: Rear Linkage Lower Solenoid Open Circuit

The control module has detected a lack of electrical continuity (an open circuit) in the wiring or the coil of the solenoid valve responsible for lowering the rear 3-point hitch. When this code is active, the tractor will typically disable the rear hitch lowering function as a safety precaution.

   Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the lower solenoid on the rear hydraulic valve block for chafing, rodent damage, or broken wires.

   Disconnect the plug at the lower solenoid and check for pushed-back pins, corrosion, or moisture inside the connector.

   Measure the resistance across the two pins of the solenoid coil using a digital multimeter (an 'OL' or infinite reading indicates a failed internal coil).

   Check the continuity of the wiring harness from the solenoid connector back to the HITCH module to rule out a broken wire if the coil tests good.

   Secure the Machine

   Park the tractor on a level surface. Ensure the rear 3-point hitch is fully lowered to the ground or mechanically supported to relieve all hydraulic pressure from the circuit. Turn off the ignition.

   Locate the Valve

   Identify the rear linkage lower solenoid valve on the rear hydraulic control block. (Note: There will be a 'Raise' and a 'Lower' solenoid; ensure you are working on the lower one).

   Disconnect Wiring

   Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty solenoid.

   Remove the Solenoid Coil

   Remove the retaining nut or clip at the end of the solenoid stem. Slide the faulty electromagnetic coil off the hydraulic valve cartridge. (Note: In most cases, you only need to replace the electrical coil, which prevents you from having to open the hydraulic system. If the entire cartridge valve is damaged, unthread it from the block).

   Install the New Part

   Slide the new solenoid coil onto the valve stem and secure it with the retaining nut/clip.

   Reconnect and Clear

   Reconnect the electrical harness. Turn the tractor on and use a compatible diagnostic tool (or the tractor's dash interface) to clear the DTCs.

   Test Operation

   Operate the rear fender buttons and the in-cab controls to verify the hitch raises and lowers smoothly without throwing the code.
