8.X.11

Massey Ferguson 8.X.11 – Rear Hitch Module (HITCH): Rear Linkage Lower Solenoid High Voltage (HITCH)

Issue description

Indicates that the electrical circuit controlling the solenoid valve responsible for lowering the rear three-point linkage is experiencing a high voltage condition. This is typically caused by a short circuit to power in the wiring harness, a failed solenoid coil, or a corroded electrical connection.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect electrical connections at the rear linkage control valve for corroded wiring or damaged pins that can mimic a complete solenoid failure

  2. Use a multimeter to test the wiring harness leading to the lower solenoid for a short to power (which triggers the high voltage code)

  3. Check the resistance of the lower solenoid coil to see if it has failed internally

  4. Ensure the tractor is turned off, the implement is fully lowered to the ground (or supported), and the hydraulic system is completely depressurized before attempting to remove the valve

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Ensure the hydraulic system is depressurized and the rear linkage is safely resting on the ground.

  2. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean any dirt, grease, or debris from the mounting surface around the rear linkage hydraulic control valve to prevent contamination of the hydraulic system.

  3. Disconnect Wiring

Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty rear linkage lower solenoid.

  4. Remove the Solenoid

Unbolt and remove the faulty solenoid from the hydraulic lift head/control valve block.

  5. Install the New Part

Install the replacement solenoid, ensuring it fits flush against the original mounting points and that all O-rings/seals are properly seated.

  6. Reconnect and Test

Reconnect the electrical harness. Start the tractor and use the cab switches to cycle the rear linkage up and down to confirm the fault code is cleared and the lowering function operates smoothly.
