Check the cause

  1. Measure the battery voltage with the engine off (must be above 11V)

  2. Measure the alternator output voltage with the engine running (must not exceed 16V)

  3. Check the main plug on the EHR Hitch control module for proper +12V supply, solid ground, and 12V signal from the alternator

  4. Verify that the module is outputting the required 10V reference voltage to power the draft sensors

Repair steps

  1. Test and Resolve Power Supply

If the battery voltage is below 11V, charge or replace the battery. If the voltage with the engine running is above 16V, replace the alternator voltage regulator or the entire alternator assembly, as it is overcharging the system.

  2. Repair Wiring

If the battery and alternator are functioning correctly, trace the wiring harness from the battery/alternator to the Rear Hitch Module. Repair any corroded pins, broken wires, or bad grounds at the module connector.

  3. Replace the Module (if necessary)

If the power supply and wiring are confirmed good (steady 12-14V at the module pins) but the module still fails to operate (e.g., internal relays click and immediately release), the Rear Hitch Module has an internal fault and must be replaced.

  4. Clear DTCs

After the repair, use a compatible diagnostic tool or interface device to clear the 8.X.16 / 08.00.16 code from the tractor's memory.

Parts you might need

(3)
  • Rear Hitch Module

    4227367M1

Verify exact part number with the dealer based on the tractor's serial number, as EHR modules can vary by specific model year.

  • Alternator / Voltage Regulator

Generic part name; specific OEM number depends on the exact engine/tractor model

  • 12V Battery

    Generic part name
